Happy Chinese New Year!

The 25th of January, which was last Sunday, will be a day I will never forget.

It was the Chinese New Year Eve. After the usual ritual of eating our tuan yuan fan, my cousins and I went for a dip in the pool at his condominium, while my relatives played cards in his apartment. I had bought some firecrackers and bomb bags, so aftter we played computer games for a while, we dashed down to the field for a 'counter strike' game.
Upon arriving at the field, we were entranced by the bright stars in the sky. Then my cousin- Leonard had to break the silence by ambushing me with a bomb. "Bang!" the bomb exploded right in my face, causing my face to be stained with white foam that leaked out. I took revenge by taking a water hose and spraying my cousin with powerful gushes of water. After combating for about half an hour, we decided to play with the firecrackers. Taking the numerous packets of firecrackers, we then realized that we had no fire source to light them up. My father took out his lighter but the flame just wouldn't start the firecracker sizzling. Then we tried burning a tissue with the lighter then start the firecracker with the burning tissue. That did not work out too.
Then I thought of burning pieces of discarded cardboard found on the field. My "genius" idea failed too.
In the end, we found out that my father's lighter was not functioning properly, so we borrowed one from my cousin's neighbour. That sparked not only the firecrackers but also the unity and warmth of us being one family.
I would like take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!

Withdrawal of Singapore Reserves

With reference to the TODAY newspaper January 19, Monday, " Govt mulling tapping the national reserves", I would like to express my point of view as a Singapore citizen to the general public.
Recently, there has been a hustle whether we should tap into our national reserves. A point of view was that could set a precedent for fiscal indiscipline and that the reserves can only be saved for the worst moment. Another point of view is that now is already the worst moment, with Singapore now facing probably the world's greatest financial crisis. My point of view is, we should stop this debate and think of how we could save our country.

Back in the 1981, when the government initiated this programme, the PM promised that it will only be used for rainy days. So if this is not a rainy day, I don't know what is.
All Singaporeans, this is no ordinary recession, we have seen buisnesses closing, the most recent one, world's biggest banking company, Citigroup, almost closing. We have seen millions of citizens losing their jobs, we have seen many families breaking apart... it's time we use our reserves.

These reserves were onced taken via taxes from us and pledged to save us during crisises our country might face. Now, its time they at least save us all from this mess- by 'paying back' what we have given them.
Of course, the decision is made by the PM himself, but I think it is time to make another wise decision, Mr Lee.

I'm a Singaporean,

"The Safest Flyer in the World"

The Safest Flyer in the world?

I have just have just read an article on the TODAY newspaper addressing the incident that happened on the 23rd of December, 4.50pm, and i am unhappy with the way the management of the 'singapore icon' responded and handled the issue.
When the Flyer was stalled for that day, 173 individuals were stucked in their capsule for 6hrs straight without any food and water. Help only arrived at 8 pm by the SCDF and they took more than 2 hrs to repair the system.
Surely they have to make some compensation or what, but the Flyer could not confirm any compensation for the 173 individuals stuck that day. Even when the 'victims' were trapped in the capsules, the management should at least try to comfort and assure the frightened civilians before any help arrived, but they didnt. Is this the type of service that the world's highest Flyer can provide?
Even when they are now building some kind of Primary Drive System, including two new back-up systems, there still be, no doubt, chances of history repeating itself. I have sat in that capsule, admiring the scenery once, that's my first time and perhaps my last time. What about the public? Can the 'victims' of the incident be "pacified", can the public be assured that it is still safe to go on that Flyer, do foreigners dare to come visit the 'world's highest flyer', and can Singapore's reputation be recovered easily?
I doubt so.

Sec 1 Orientation

I just had my sec 1 orientation a week ago.

Lately, I found out that most people despise the importance of school and class cheers. Buddies tell us that cheering is the best way of showing the school spirit!
As part of the school family, we should be more excited and enthusiastic about shouting school cheers as loud as we can! Let us show other schools that our school rock!!!!!!!
Cheers are a symbol of our patriotism for our school, so as students of this world-renowed school, we not be shy nor embarrased when shouting with our voice how good our school is, since it is "filled" with students who are the top elite of Singapore! Let us be joyful and proud of this school that has a land of 10 norm. sec schools!
